This is where it can get crazy fast. You do you here, but I can't say enough how important it is to experiment here!!
Like many will say, sauce can make or break your cook! Now I don't hide anything and I'll share my most coveted sauce recipe that people LOVE!
First I start with Sweet Baby Ray's bbq sauce. It's basic, tastes good and I can reuse the bottles as I make my sauce. You can easily make it from scratch, but you really don't save much $$ so Mr. Ray is my guy!!
Measurements are a rough guestimate, I don't measure when I make it, I like my sauce to be different every time!
In a pot on your stove or bbq mix this up and simmer for about an hour or less, then let cool and bottle it back up!
80oz Sweet Baby Rays (or whatever you choose)
1/2 cup maple syrup
3/4 cup honey
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
3/4 can of Dr. Pepper or Pepsi (or variant's of those)
1 cup Mr. Yoshida's Teriyaki Sauce
1 tablespoon Cayenne pepper (Optional)
1 tablespoon Smoked Paprika
1 tablespoon salt, pepper, garlic
1/4-1/2 cup of red wine vinegar (if yer makin' pulled pork)
Some of you will read this and lose your mind, I'm fine with that. But it's a great sweet and tangy recipe. If you like spicy, then add Red Pepper flakes and double the cayenne!!
